Hallo Martin,

Martin

EX - AD (Not D?)
EXII - AD-X
SX - SA
SXII - SA-X
ZX - MA (But why not MA-X. This is because MA-X appeared in 1985?)

Moin Martin,

@ Volodymyr: Yes, I think the Nakamichi ZX was introduced before the TDK MA-X. And actually I think that the first MA-X was MA in a different shell. When MA-X hit the market in Europe in 1986, the MA disappeared, and came back as a budget metal tape around 1988/89.

The other designations in your compilation are correct. I agree that EX should be AD and not D tape. But when it comes to the older Nakamichi cassettes with black inlays and coloured Naka logotypes, they had the same designations, but you can find both TDK and Maxell cassettes inside. For example, the EX II and the first ZX on the following page are Maxells, the others are TDKs:
http://agfabasf.com/catalog/nakamichi/nakamichi-1979/

Martin

No need to be afraid :-)

I have the SX and the Chrome as on your picture. The SX is a TDK SA from around 1975-76, and the Chrome is an early 1970's Fuji FC. But it may be possible that there are also TDK and Maxell versions of all of them in the same package design.

Best regards
Martin

The BASF Testcasette is recorded with test signals. Unfortunately there are no hints about this printed onto the cassette or inlay, which means some may think it was a blank cassette test sample. This specific version looks like that which was distributed for free to readers of the German "Stereo" magazine, you only needed to send them a coupon with your address. They were overwhelmed by the demand, so it took them about half a year to make all the test cassettes for everyone who had sent in the coupon in time. (Unfortunately, I had not sent in anything, because when I first read about the campaign, it was already at the stage where they asked for more patience...)

Cheers
Martin

You mean if I send you a coupon, I will get a Testcassette? :-) I have recently acquired one for a reasonable price, and hope it has not been recorded over yet... at least, the original instructions leaflet seems to be included, which I think is a good sign. I'll see in September during my next family visit in Germany.

Are you sure that the stickers are not different for side A and B on the same cassette in both cases? It would make more sense than inverting the black and yellow parts between 1973 and 76. Maybe the only difference between the two cassettes is the updated Sanyo logotype? I don't have a clue... never seen these cassettes in real life.

Martin
